Emma Watson’s Short Haircut

There are many celebrities that can be seen making the change from their traditional long hairstyles to cutting edge short hairstyles. Emma Watson is only one of the latest starlets to chop off her long hairstyle and make way for a fashionable short look. This look is very short, but she has the bone structure through her face to pull off the short style.

Are you considering making a change through your hairstyle and are wondering if you would be able to pull off a drastic change like this? Without cutting off the hair there are many things that you can do to determine how you would look. You can choose to make use of hairstyle software that can allow you to upload your picture into the system, changing your hairstyle to see how you would look with short hair like Emma’s or you can even make use of a very short wig that can be combined with the hair pulled up off of the face.

She has cut it all off and it looks quite great. It is a very fashion forward look that is sure to have her at the top of the short hairstyle list for 2010 and well into the 2011 season.

The Drew Challenge

So, my sister challenged me to recreate her favorite Drew Barrymore look, so I took it. :D  Do you remember Drew's flapper look back at the Grey Garden's Premiere? She looks stunning!

Well, I took my sister's challenge, and here is my result. :)  My hair is not as long as Drew's so I did the shorter version. I hope you like it! :D

1920's!

One of my FAVORITE era's is the 1920's.  Everything was so glamorous in that time. Women were always dressed up whether on the town or at home.  The men were also well groomed. From their pin suits to their Fedora's.  The hair and makeup was always so flawless, and every hair was kept just in place.  That is why I loved it when my sister gave me the "Drew Flapper Look" challenge.  The pin curls are my favorite.  It's an instant flashback, and always a great way to instantly glamorize any outfit. (P.S. It's also the perfect way to turn a bad hair day into a great hair day.) :)

Basic Teased Hair

The most important thing you can do to avoid dry winter hair

I live in the state of Florida and, as you know, one of the things I have to deal with for the better part of the year is how hot and sweltering it can get in the summer time. Currently, the weather is beginning to change and many of us are breaking out our jackets and sweaters. One of the last things we think about when the weather starts to shift is the amount of water we are taking in the a regular basis.

Last year, while siting down having a conversation with my supervisor. I looked down at the palms of my hands and noticed something peculiar. My palms were white with dryness and I had tiny little areas of where my skin began to peel. I quickly picked those areas of skin out of embarrassment hoping the problem would soon go away. Days later, the entire palms of my hands were flacking and peeling. I'd never experienced anything like it. I thought I'd been infected with some type of skin eating bacteria. The more I peeled the loose skin, the worse it became.

My peeling palms were very embarrassing but the most disturbing part was I couldn't figure out how to stop it. So finally, after days of throwing around ideas and inquiring to myself about what could have caused this, I got the notion of increasing my water intake. The amount of water I was drinking at the time was very minimal. Like now, the weather was cooler and the desire to drink water was not that strong. I figured that since I wasn't thirsty, I didn't really need to drink much water.

So for the next couple of days, I faithfully filled my water bottle and proceeded to drink water at every opportunity. I think my goal was to drink at least 2 liters a day. I promise you that 3-5 days later, the peeling stopped and by the next week, my hands we back to normal. That experience was huge for me because it really taught me the power of drinking water and, more importantly, the consequences of being dehydrated.

That whole experience got me thinking. Could the reduction of water intake during the winter months also have a negative impact on the health of my hair? Let's think about what our hair experiences during summer:
  • Circulation is improved, growth is increased.
  • Shedding is minimal
  • The hair thrives overall
In the winter, I normally experience the opposite: super dry scalp, increased shedding, and slower growth rate. I used to think these results were just a normal part of winter but the whole palm peeling incident has really made me think. "Is it possible that some of my hair's winter symptoms have to do with my water lower intake?" When the body's water supply is insufficient, it uses whatever little water it has for critical functions such as making sure the brain and other organs are operating at proper levels. This leaves very little water for our extremities which leads to such things as dry hands, feet, lips, etc. We can see and experience dry hands and feet. But instead of moisturizing our bodies with water, we slather on lotions, butters, and lip balm to cover the problem.

The last thing I was thinking about, when my palms were peeling, was the possible impact of my dehydration on the scalp and my hair follicles. It's important to reiterate the hair strand is 25% water. Not only is the strand made up of water, it also relies on water to carry to the strand nutrients, vitamins, and proteins. If the palms of my hand were suffering at the hands of dehydration, what was going on with my hair? Looking back at my old posts from last fall/winter, one reoccurring message in my posts was about my constant shedding. Because of this, I'll make an un-proven assumption that the amount of water I drank had something to do with my dry, itchy scalp, my massive shedding, and my dry brittle hair. Once I remember being stranded on the side of a highway and, while waiting for the guy to come bring me gas, I read through an entire thread on Longhaircareforum on drinking a gallon of water day challenge. Those who managed to stick to the challenge faithfully boasted of experiencing more moisturized hair along with other desirable benefits. More specifically, they noted that their hair was more able to retain moisture overall. One member, amara11, provided us her opinion on whether increasing water intake actually could affect the already existing hair, not just the new growth. I took the liberty of posting her comment below for your reference:

"This is not true. It's a common misconception.

The hair strand is continuous, and though hair is dead, it has layers that are continuous and feed right from the bulb. What you give to your body is not only apparent in the new growth, it is also spread throughout the core of the hair- (again because the entire strand is one continous length and it feeds out from the bulb). Since there is no disconnect between the bulb and the rest of the hair, what is available to the hair at the root, will eventually spread out to the tips/ends of the strand. You may notice it first at the new growth, but it will also make a difference in the hair that has already grown out (though this may take longer).

You can see between the root (bulb and papilla) and the rest of the strand, there is no division or block to the spread of nutrients and minerals to the rest of the shaft. This is one of the main reasons doctor can take tell whether you have ingested certain drugs by studying your hair strands (whether the roots are in tact or not!) "

This year, I'm not taking any chances. I have a new mindset when it comes to what my hair will experience this winter. It's inspiring to know there's something I can do to help manage my dry scalp and the health of my follicles. Along with the help of ultra-moisturizing hair products, I must focus on drinking enough water to make a difference this winter. Now, my water drinking will have a purpose. This purpose is motivating enough to encourage me to drink water even when I'm not thirsty. Hopefully you too have been inspired to really make a commitment to yourself regarding how much water you drink on a daily basis. I know for some drinking water isn't the easiest thing to do in the world. Heck, I only drink water and even I struggled to keep myself hydrated in the winter months. So now comes the time when we talk about some practical ways to turn our water drinking habits from a desire to reality.
One tip that I'll never forget is to start the day off with a large glass of water. At night our bodies are diligently working away to collect toxins. By drinking water first thing in the morning we jump start our digestive system and promote the removal of the toxins collected overnight. Once you've consumed your morning water, fill a couple of water bottles to take with you for drinking during your work day. When you return home refill your bottle and sip until you've drank close to half your body weight in ounces. Before getting into bed, refill another bottle so you've got water waiting for you for when you first awake in the morning. It's a process so don't get down on yourself if you don't drink as much water as you like one day. Just raise the amount even a little bit the next day.

So don't let the cooler weather rob your hair of the vital moisture it needs to thrive. We already have to deal with harsh external factors such as winter winds and lower humidity, the worst thing we can do is deprive the strands of water from the inside. Make the commitment today to combat winter dryness with plenty of water. Your hair will thank you.

PreK Field Trips

A1 loves her new school so much. They recently went on a couple of field trips, and I was able to go with her on one of them.

We went to the Santa Monica Aquarium to learn about marine life. The kids had a blast touching sea slugs and seaweed. They learned about keeping the environment clean so that they don't adversely affect the marine life. They practiced scientific learning by using all five senses (well, four senses, then they watched as one of the Aquarium workers "tasted" for them) to study a sea star (that's right, they're called sea stars, not star fish. I learned something on this field trip too!).Then we just happened to be on the Pier as a parade of 100 motorcyclists and old-fashioned police cars came past. The kids loved waving at all the noisy vehicles and having these huge, burly bikers wave happily at them in return.A great day at the Santa Monica Pier!

They also went to the Santa Ana Zoo, but I wasn't allowed to go on the field trip because I volunteered for the first one. I guess we parents have to take turns having fun with our kids! What a great school to take these preschoolers on great and educational field trips.

A2's Second Birthday

A2 turned 2 last month. He is growing up so fast. He's no longer a little baby, but a little boy now. He is obsessed with fishing lately. Everyday we go to the playground, where he finds a stick and pretends to fish in any hole that he can find. He pretends anything with a string is a fishing pole, especially a couple of the quiet toys I have for Church.

So we threw him a fishing birthday party. I made little party bags with fish name tags for each of the guests that they decorated. The kids then "fished" for candy to put in their newly decorated bags. Some kids used the poles, others thought the poles just got in the way of the candy. We then had pizza and cake. I think this might be one of the cutest cakes I've ever made. And it was simple enough that I didn't need any outside help (Jaime was especially grateful for that part). Was the cake delicious? Ask the birthday boy!(I will never get tired of pictures of my children with food all over their faces!)

This was the first birthday that A2 was excited for presents. He received some really good things from all of his friends, but his favorite present came from Grandma and Grandpa. Now he can keep up with A1 at the playground. Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa.

Happy Birthday, A1. We love having you in our family. You make our lives so happy and filled with love.

I Love the 40's

Drew! :)

Drew rocks and I absolutely adore her styles be it clothing or makeup.  She's fun, giggly, daring, and not afraid to be herself and that's what makes a person shine.  So, from time to time, I'll post recreations of Drew
photoshoots :)

When We Grow Up

As part of a recent school project, A1 had to decide what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her answer was the same as it has been every time we've asked: a doctor and a mommy (my mom is so proud of that answer). I think she'll be very good at both. Not to be outdone, A2 also wants to be a doctor. He's not so sure about the daddy thing, however. He'd much rather have his mommy take care of him than having to take care of someone else.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Hair Style #21

This is a great Halloween hairstyle. Rolled-up braids with spiky ends sticking out each side looks a lot like a spider. I spiked A1's hair into eight legs on each rolled-up braid and put in spider clips to really set off the spooky effect.

PreK at Elementary School

A1 started preschool at the local elementary school this fall. She is such a big girl now.
Here she is with her two teachers: Teacher Renee and Teacher Kim. They are amazing and the kids just love them.

A1 adores school. She comes home everyday with homework, which she insists must be done before anything else, including eating or going to Disneyland. And every time we finish her homework, she asks for more. A couple of times she has even suggested that we go to the store to buy her more homework! (Yes, my daughter is a nerd, but that runs in the family, so we won't discourage it.) I hope this attitude continues through the rest of her education.

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

A few weeks ago Los Angeles had extreme heat. It reached 113 degrees, which is the hottest it has been here since they started keeping records of temperature. So what did we do to weather the heat? We cranked up the AC and watched movies with all our best friends. I believe we had 22 people over at our apartment watching the newest Tinkerbell movie.Reviews:

Girls - "That was awesome!"
Boys - "This was fun, but I think next time we should watch Star Wars."

You can't please everyone.

This Post Brought To You By The Letter A

I did not intentionally give my children names that started with the same letter. It just so happened that the names we liked start with the same letter. However, it sure does make choosing which letter at California Adventure to use for our picture a lot easier.

About Me

Hi!

My name is Teresa, and I'm an aspiring makeup/hair stylist. I'm not sure how to write a blog or where to begin, or if there is a certain way, so I'll just start, and hope for the best. :)  I am a dreamer and a believer. I think that you can be whatever you dream to be.  You just have to keep dreaming and keep believing, and follow thru.  It's not always easly, and I am a prime example.  As of this moment, I am striving to achieve the dream of being an artist. Being an artist is one of the hardest things to keep believing in because it's youre soul you are baring, and it's out there for everyone to judge even yourself. And you are the hardest critic of them all. Sometimes it's hard to keep going when you feel as if nothing is happening, and things seem stagnant, and you're running in circles just trying to survive, and you just feel like giving up. These are the days when you have to grab on to whatever inspires you, and hold on tight.  You can have many inspirations.  My sister Jane and my son Brogan our my two main inspirations.  I keep going because of them. There are so many things I could say about the both of them, but there are no words that can describe. I love them more than life itself, and I would do anything for them.  Thank you Sis for everything you've done. And I promise we will make it happen! :D

I recently moved from Texas to Seattle to chase these dreams.

Hair Style #20

We call this hairdo "Porcupine Head." Two criss-crossed braids with spiky ends. Fun and funky. It's one of A1's very favorites. We have to do her hair like this at least once a week.

Another Awesome Vacation - Day 3

Disneyland really took it out of us, so Day 3 was dedicated to relaxing. We slept in, then we went to the beach. This was the first time Casey had been to a beach on the West Coast and the first time that Carmen had been to a beach at all. Don't worry, we showed them the ropes.

We played in the waves......and Grandma showed the kids how to make a sand castle......and we buried ourselves in the sand......and we just plain old relaxed.(I think I have a picture of my dad sleeping at the beach for every time he has visited us in California. I may have to make a collage for him!)

We ate at a great burger joint and played a new card game that my parents recently found, Dominion. I have now asked for that game for Christmas because it's just that much fun to play.

Thanks, Alison and Casey and Carmen, for spending your first California vacation with us. I'm really glad I was here for the first visits to Disneyland and the beach. And thanks, Grandma and Grandpa, for joining us on this vacation. It was magical.

And Grandpa is and always will be the girls favorite.
